GOOD IDEA

Not only me , every Chinese student, when they return to China from amercia during breaks, they will be asked: what is america like? What have you learned there? …

If you were born in China, you would be very curious about foreigners and foreign countries. The reason for that I think is very complicated. For one thing, china has been closed for many many years; in addition, china has been so overpopulated. That means that to get more share or to survive you have to fight, through fighting, hurting would be inevitable. Over time, Chinese people feel more and more insecure, more and more non-protected! Maybe no Chinese will admit this, but this is really the case. Please don’t get me wrong. I am not saying that Chinese is not good in any way, what is wrong is where you have been brought up. That is all that matters. At this point you may ask me: what are you talking about? Does what you say have anything to do with the topic? Yes! That is virtually the most significant thing I have learned from my international experience: environment matters most.

When I returned to china, my friend asked about my foreign experience, here is pretty much what I told them: america is a safe and wonderful place to live and study. It is very different from what I expected. Before I went there, I thought that china is safest place, because it is my home. But I am wrong! In america, everything is regulated and systemized, which I think is a symbolism of civilization, but in today’s china, the rule is that there are no rules!! China is just going through what western counties went through decades ago! I did not learn much academically, because the major I chose is so theoretical, I want to learn something technical such as computer science, I can go back in time and pick my major again, I will definitely choose computer science. Since I am going to graduate this summer, I will take computer science as a second degree after I am done with economics. I did learn very much about the differences between america and china. I will give a simple outline of what I think the main differences are:

When I first came to america, the most impressive thing to me is that americans are really nice. At least that they treat me nicer than Chinese. Why?? I have been thinking this question and after about one year of living in america, I finally figured out the reason: because that american society is nice and americans are generally nice. Let me give you a for instance, if you are a nice person in general, and one day you go to a place where people are mean and they treat you mean, and you have to live and communicate with them , I am sure that before long you will become mean. Conversely, if you are a generally a mean person and one day the people around you for some reason start treating  you seriously nice, you will gradually stop being mean! Here comes my point once again: environment matters most!

The lesson I have learned in america is very important to me! I would never learn this course of life if had not been abroad. Now I know what china’s future is like, it would be I think just what today’s advanced western countries like! I am looking forward to the days when Chinese could live in china as peacefully as westerners in western countries today.

China is rising and paying a huge price for the growth: corruption is still a huge issue, the increasing gap between the poor and the rich… I am optimistic about the china’s economic future and I am pessimistic and concerned about china’s future if its social problems could not be solved . Generally, I learned a lot from my experience , I complete my collage education, here I figured out who I am and what I can do for a living…
